Late reply to an old post which I apparently missed.

There are different versions. See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Horsemen_of_the_Apocalypse

Pestilence, War, Famine and Death
This interpretation rearranges the order in which the horsemen arrive to end the world, and a slight change to their personae. Pestilence is portrayed as a distinct entity, separate from Famine, and takes Conquest's normal place in the lineup.

The first horseman to appear is Pestilence, who rides upon a white horse. Pestilence conquers the nations of the world, subjugating them to demonic powers of the world. In the wake of Pestilence comes War, riding a large, wild red horse and wielding a tremendous sword symbolizing continuing war over the domination of the world, killing millions in his path with his sword. In the wake of War, due to immense destruction because of War and Pestilence, is Famine. Famine is portly - riding upon a black, sickly horse - representing gluttony and hunger. And in the wake of Famine, comes the pale rider, Death. His horse is stark pale. He is followed by Hades and carries the remaining souls to their final destinations.

It is this interpretation which is most commonly used as the basis for pop culture's uses of the Four Horsemen concept.

However there's no reason why we couldn't combine other aspects of Conquest into Pestilence.

Pestilence: White horse -> plague bow and crown of conquest?
War: Red horse -> sword (greatsword?) and perhaps heavy armour?
Famine: Black horse -> a pair of balances (wand?)
Death: Pale horse -> maybe a scythe? Black robes?

Could these items be a requirement for classing (replacing tokens for the Lich class)? A conquering power? A forging power? Class-specific epics? Something else?

May thy fangs stay ever sharp, thy soul ever dark.

Maybe they could have powers relating to or enhancing specific forms or equipment as darkblade works better with House Darkblade, or loincloth with Oni Spawn; so would Shroud of Death or Control Death with Scythes and Robes; Weaponry of War or Control war with Greatswords and Heavy armour, etc... as long as you also have the heritage.

Disease-inducing arrows for those with the Avatar of Pestilence heritage would be fun.

what about a hoard like power, where the lich gets organs from his opponents (similar to fangs) and stores them in his phylactery (like hoard). lungs could give speed, hearts could give resistance, livers health, brains ascendancy, etc

You become partially visible.
You drive your darkblade deep into Lostinbeer's back, skewering his heart!
--==>>> You freeze Lostinbeer's back for 3477 damage.
Lostinbeer's body goes limp.
[VICTORY] Fraust slew Lostinbeer with 100% health remaining.
